About

This website is based on the thesis of Steven Mc Morrow, whilst studying for a degree on Spatial Planning and Environmental Management.

The thesis focused on a protected areas inventory database which allowed users to check if an area qualified for protection under environmental legislation based on its habitat type or species located there in.

The website has now been updated to assist in –

  • Phase 1 Habitat surveys.
  • Preliminary impact assessments of proposed developments under Article 6 of the Habitats Directive.
  • Maintenance and development of Natura 2000 sites.
  • Provides information for use in management plans of any ecological area.
  • Provides information for site monitoring which is required to assess the current effectiveness of a site.

EU Species & Habitats Database

Using the EU Species & Habitats Database you can find out about protected species and habitats in Ireland.
You can browse the database to see if Irish species qualify for protection under Annex II of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EC) or other international conventions.
You can browse the database to check if any Irish habitat qualifies for protection under Annex I of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EC).
